Schools often call these the Year 3 and 4 common exception words. The National Curriculum calls them the statutory word list for Years 3 and 4, and children are expected to learn to spell all 100 by the end of Year 4.

What it covers

  • All 100 words from the Years 3–4 statutory word list
  • A printable word list
  • A printable look–say–cover–write–check sheet

Who it's for

Children in Years 3 and 4 (ages 7–9).

How to use it

  • Learn 10 words a week rather than all of them at once.
  • Use look–say–cover–write–check: look at the word, say it, cover it, write it from memory, then check.
  • Use each word in a sentence of your own, spoken first and then written.
