Year 4 Reading Assessment (SATs-style)
A full reading assessment in the format of the KS2 English reading test. The reading booklet contains three texts – a story ('A Real Virtual World'), a non-fiction piece ('Teeth') and a poem ('The Star'). The second file is the pupil answer booklet, where children write their answers to marked questions (e.g. retrieval, sequencing, vocabulary, inference and explaining how a character feels).
What it covers
- Retrieval and multiple-choice questions
- Ordering events in a story
- Vocabulary in context (e.g. 'bewildered', 'urgently')
- Inference – how and why characters feel and act
- Finding and copying evidence from the text
Who it's for
Year 4 children (age 8–9) practising for school assessments; also a helpful early SATs taster for Year 5.
How to use it
Print both files. Allow around 45–60 minutes. Note: the 'answer booklet' is where pupils write – no mark scheme is included, so ask a tutor to mark it or bring it to a Harringtons session.
